In scooping the Semperit Irish Car of the Year Award the Suzuki Swift trounced the Range Rover Sport - which didn't even make second place. Rarely has The Irish Motoring Writers Association given a decision so notably clear-cut - the Swift gained 119 points, while the Volkswagen Passat was a distant second with 86 points. (The other also-rans being the Citroen C$ and the Toyota Aygo.)
What Car? Voted the Swift 'Best Buy Supermini, £7,500 - £10,000' - 'There's a whole heap of talent in this price-bracket'. they said, 'but the Suzuki Swift offers something a little bit different ... Unlike others at this price the equipment list will leave you drooling - keyless entry and go, a decent CD player, alloy wheels, air-conditioning and powered windows. On top of that it's well built, so you can expect to see little of your dealer - Suzuki's have an excellent reputation for reliability. All in all, a fun and really affordable supermini'.
And what does Jeremy Clarkson himself reckon to the Suzuki Swift? "One of the best cars under ten grand I've ever driven."
